Catching up is hard to do

So I'm a little behind on events here in our home. I'll try to remember everything!

Jaina turned 1 on the 19th! I have pics and video of her "party" a week after her actual birthday. I was very sick with an upper respiratory infection on her actual birthday, so we postponed it. We had cupcakes and a few toys and books. I'll do another post later with the cupcake pictures. They're pretty fun! Jaina now says "Mama" and "Daddy", but doesn't use them properly yet. Although yesterday when John came home she did look at him and say "Daddy!" so maybe she's figuring it out. She also says "E-I-E-I-O" when she wants you to sing "Old MacDonald" and it mastering the hand motions to"Wheels on the Bus".

We rescheduled Mother's Day for the 23rd. John got tickets to go see "Fiddler On the Roof" on stage. Remember Tevye from the movie? Same guy! He's been doing the play since 1967! Isn't that amazing? This is his farewell tour. Fiddler just wouldn't be right without Topol in the lead, so I'm very happy I got to see him! We almost didn't go, though, because the day before my friend's kids got VERY sick and she wasn't able to watch the girls as planned. I called around, not really thinking I'd be able to find a replacement. One friend told me to call a girl in our ward who always watches her kids. So I did, and even though I've never met this girl OR her parents, she agreed to watch the girls. Turns out she lives about 8 houses down from us, which is pretty awesome. So John and I got to go on our first real date in about 8 months and the girls had a blast with their first teenaged sitter.

I was deathly ill for about a week. Well, not really, but it felt like it. I ended up on antibiotics and an inhaler for an upper respiratory infection. Not fun. I still have a lingering cough, but I feel back to normal. For a while there I couldn't cough standing up or I'd have to hot-foot it to the bathroom. Gotta love being pregnant.

My Dad turned old on the 28th. Happy Birthday Dad!

We went to the Dallas zoo last Saturday. People keep saying the Fort Worth zoo is so much better, but we beg to differ. Having been raised on the NC zoo where there are hundreds of acres and the animals have plenty of room to run (and hide from humans), the Fort Worth zoo seemed cramped and almost inhumane at times. The Dallas zoo is much bigger and spread out and you can tell they have made a huge effort to create natural environments for the animals. Some animals we weren't able to see because of the way their habitats were set up. I like zoos that allow their animals to have some privacy when they want it. We're excited for next year when their "Giants of the Savannah" exhibit opens, which will be a LARGE savannah for the elephants, girraffs, zebras, etc. If you've ever been to the NC zoo you know what I'm talking about. Oh, and almost the entire zoo was shaded with trees. It was a hot day, but we didn't notice until we left because we were walking in the shade the whole time. I LOVE that! And they have a cool kid's zoo with a large "stream" running through the playground. John had seen it last time he went so we were prepared with swimsuits and towels for the girls. They had a freaking blast! Jaina biffed it at one point and bit through her tongue and skinned her chin. Much blood and crying ensued. But she went right back in after she calmed down and blood stopped streaming out of her mouth. You know it's a good day when they both fall asleep on the way home.

Monday was my ultrasound, that was a lot of fun. I was sad on Tuesday when the cd the tech gave me turned out to be blank. The birth center called the ultrasound place and they sent me a new one with all the pictures.

I unpacked and hung my pictures yesterday! Yay!

My birthday is tomorrow and Saturday we're going out on ANOTHER date! Holy cow, I'll be 27! How did that happen?

And next week: SEA WORLD!!!!!

OH MY GOSH! You never told me you were turning 27...now you are really going to be old! We miss you, sounds like you are having fun...walking around atlanta just isn't as much fun now that I can't just wander into some random apartment complex...
