So here it is, my very first blog. I finally decided to cave to the coolness of blogging. I'm not sure who's going to read this mess, but hey, if it brightens someone's day, then it's worth it.
In about a week and a half, my hubby, my baby, and myself will be traveling to DFW for a job interview/house hunting trip. The company asked me to come so I can look around the area (and hopefully love it) and find a place to live. I am excited about the trip, but a little nervous about flying with a one-year-old. Any suggestions? I have spent the last fwe days trying to find a place for us out there, but haven't had much success. John wants to find an apartment for a while, I want to find a house. A rental is fine, it's the whole apartment-living-with-an-active-toddler that I don't relish. The thought of lugging a 22-lb baby in one arm and groceries in the other up 3 flights of stairs over and over and over again is enough to put me off my ice cream. Almost. Hopefully our realtor here will find us a realtor there and I can let them do all the work.
The big positive in this soon-to-be relocation is the fact that the company will pay for the move. You have no idea how excited I am at the prospect of having four or five hairy, smelly guys come in my house, rip it apart, shove it in boxes, then haul it across six states while I sit on my bum and watch it all while laughing and clapping with glee. Really, that alone makes me want to tell John to take the job, no matter what. I hate packing, but I love unpacking. I love throwing away half the junk I pull out of those boxes. We have moved five times since we have been married, so our junk accumulation has been at a minimum. Since we had the baby, our junk accumulation has skyrocketed. It is amazing all the stuff you get when a baby is born. Half of it you either don't have a clue what it does, and the other half you don't have a clue how to get it to do what it does. Being the proud recipient of all the stuff my two older sisters don't want anymore, I now have a yard sale in my attic, just waiting to be moved to dusty old Texas. The big decisions now is, do I have the yard sale before I move, or after? I'm rooting for after.

Flying with a non-nursing toddler... take the car seat and hope there is an extra seat for her!
Give her some herbal calming something.
food, snacks, lots of them
Pray she sleeps!
walk if the flight attendants let you
portable DVD player with her favorite movies
maybe this will spark some other ideas for you...

I'm with you on the moving thing. Between the movers, the fun of a new place, and the de-cluttering that comes with it, its just a win-win situation all the way around.
As for flying with kids, we flew to UT with elise and ian when they were 9-months and 3 years, along with my 85 year old grandmother. That was an adventure all its own. =) The portable DVD is wonderful if you have one. We had a nice soul on the plane near us who let us borrow theirs. Finding Nemo was never so wonderful. I also packed all kind of fun treats--snacks as well as "prizes" (you know what tickles your kid) for when things got hairy. It really was not bad at all.
Can't wait to hear how things go. Best of luck with everything, even though I think I might start to hyperventilate at the thought. ;)
