Sleepy Eater
Today, while making my world famous spaghetti sauce, my daughter fell asleep in her high chair for the first time. I was busy browning meat, trying to get it all done and simmering before nap time, when I turned around to check on the progress being made on a plate of ham, cheese, and banana. Libby's little head was bobbing all around on her nack, finally coming to rest on her pink butterfly sippy cup. I recognized this event as a major milestone in my daughter's life, and ran for the camera. I thought she would jerk awake when she heard the whir of the lens, but, even though she did jerk a bit, she stayed fast asleep. I took a few pictures (I have a camera from the dark ages, so you'll have to wait for me to get the film developed), then decided that if I hurried, I could get her cleaned up and in bed before my onions started to burn. Poor child slept through the face and hand washing, the diaper change (it was just too full to make it through nap time), and the clothing change (cheese and banana make poor bedfellows). I gave my meat a quick stir with baby snoozing on my shoulder, then hauled her up to bed. One of these days I am going to figure out how to lower her all the way to the mattress without crushing my ribs against the rail and dropping her the last few inches. In the meantime, she usually sleeps through the drop, as she did today. She is sleeping peacefully upstairs, my meatsauce is simmering peacefully downstairs, and I started blogging so I could avoid the task of putting laundray away for just one more day.
