When Mother says "no", ask Grandma

That was the inscription on a figurine my Grandma Patty gave me many, many years ago. It pretty much summed up our relationship. Grandma always had the cookie, the tv show, the one last story before bedtime. Like all Grandmas do. Grandma liked Goodberry's ice cream, James Herriott, walks in the woods, dogs, books about horses, and fuzzy socks. She was blunt and irreverent and sometimes had the sense of humor of a 12-year-old boy. Pearls were her favorite jewelry, and she dressed for comfort instead of style. I may not share any of her genes, but, somehow, I turned out just like her. And I miss her. A whole lot.

May she walk hand in hand with her beloved again this night.
