Walk Like An Egyptian

I started school last week, a little earlier than planned, but I wanted to get in at least a 9-week quarter, if not a 12 week trimester, done before the baby is born.  Also, Libby was soooo bored, and a bored Libby equals trouble in many ways!  Thirdly, I had a preterm labor scare a few weeks ago and after testing showed all was well, my midwife told me to stay out of the heat.  No more trips to the zoo, walking for 3 hours and pushing kids in the stroller.  No more lake days.  And park days must be limited to early morning hours, because we have had almost a month of 100+ degree heat and no rain for longer than that time.  Dehydration makes my contractions much worse, so I'm basically limited to places that have air conditioning.  So days of being inside, coupled with not having the energy to think of way to keep Libby and Jaina entertained, resulted in me saying "Hey, you guys want to go ahead and start school?" and them responding with "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

This week we are learning about ancient Egypt in our history/geopraphy study.  Clothing, food, customs, etc.  Today I asked the girls if they wanted to pretend to be egyptians.  "YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!"  So i took them into my bathroom and helped them put on makeup and perfume, all the while asking them "What colors did they like for lips and cheeks?  For eyes?  what did they call the black liner they put on their eyes?  What did they make their perfumes out of?  What did their jewelry look like?" and so on and so forth.  Then they went to the table and decorated "jeweled collars" that I cut out and tied around their necks, then off to the jewelry box for bracelets and necklaces.  In the kitchen, we reviewed common foods eaten by the ancient Egyptians and raided the fridge looking for lunch.  We found bread, eggs, watermelon, and cucumbers, all things that were eaten by "wealthy" egyptians.  I didn't have any beer, so they drank water.  After lunch, Libby was able to locate Egypt on our world map by following the geographical clues I gave her.

All in all, it was a fun learning day, despite the fact that 3 out of the 4 of us are sick.  The show must go on!

So fun. I love egyptian make up time! That must be so fun with the girls. You take care of yourself and having babies too early.
