Happy 4th!

Our 4th of July wasn't much different than any other day, except John stayed home from work and we got to spend the day with him.  We went to the children's aquarium, because Libby asked, and because John hasn't been there since the big remodel.  It was stinkin' hot, as summer days in Texas are wont to be, so on the way out we stopped at one of the fountains at Fair Park and let the kids cool off a bit.  Now, Malachi is very anti-water.  At the sprayground, he will get the tips of his fingers wet, and only if he's holding my hand.  So imagine my surprise when he started sticking his head in front of the fountain jets.  Here's a short video of the kids getting wet:

I think they had more fun at the fountain than they did at the aquarium.

After coming home, John let me take a nap, which is a seriously rare treat.  He even went to the store for me after I woke up to get some last-minute dinner stuff.  Mike and the boys came down for dinner (Joyce and Kira were sick), and the girls had a blast playing with cousins that don't mind getting jumped and climbed on.  Having big boys around can come in handy sometimes :)  We let the kids stay up late because they were enjoying their cousins so much.  After the fun left and the kids went to bed, John and I heard the Plano fireworks and ran outside to see if we could watch them from our front yard.  If we posistioned just right and looked through the branches of a neighbor's tree, we could actually see quite well.  John thinks we could park a couple streets over and see clearly, and said he'll try that next year with the girls.

Tuesday John had the day off again and we went to the lake.  It was a dismal little beach, but it's close, it's not crowded, it has (some) shade, and parking is right up on the beach, so it's somewhere we'll go back to.  If you keep your eyes out over the water, it's quite pretty.  And the Texas wind coming off the lake kept us quite cool in the 100+ degree heat.  The kids had so much fun.  The deepest part of the swimming hole comes up to Libby's chest, which is just great.  Jaina even got a bit adventurous after a bit, which pleased me because my goal this summer is to get her comfortable swimming on her own with her float suit.  Malachi wasnt interested in the water (big surprise) but had fun digging in the sand and sitting with us and snacking.  We went home smelling like dead fish, but had a lot of fun.  I got ANOTHER nap, and then we just hung out the rest of the evening.  It was great having John home for a 4-day weekend, it should happen more often :)
