The Kids

LIBBY
Libby turned 7 in June and is in second grade this year.  She asked to learn "fancy writing" and by the end of the year her cursive will probably be better than both mine and John's.  She loves to learn, but doesn't so much love to read.  She's a whiz at math and picks up new concepts very quickly.  She's doing nature study for science this year and is loving every second we spend outside with our binoculars, magnifying glasses, field guides, and nature journals.  Libby also loves to draw.  She would be perfectly happy if she could draw all day instead of doing school.  Take a peek inside her schoolbooks and you will see every page covered in drawings of horses, dinosaurs, and dragons.  She'll look at books or shows, then use what she sees as elements in her pictures.  She says she wants to be a scientist when she grows up, but I suspect she'll be an artist.

Libby's Favorites:
Colors - red, blue, eco green, daffodil yellow, brown
Foods - Pizza, soft pretzels, smoothies, ice cream, chocolate cake, caramel corn
Books - Dinosaur books, dragon books, snake books
Toys - Big dragon, sockasaurus
Outings - Rocket park, museums
Shows - My Little Pony, Equestria Girls, Garfield, Octonauts
Subject - Spanish

JAINA
Jaina turned 5 in May and is in kindergarten.  Well, technically she's in kindergarten, but most of her schoolwork is on a first-grade level.  She is smart as a whip and remembers everything she hears and reads, and she's not shy about correcting you if she thinks you're wrong about something!  Jaina is sweet as sugar and absolutely hilarious.  Most of our laughter is caused by her.  But the girl knows how to throw some amazing tantrums, and she is stubborn as a mule.  I'm trying to teach her how to reign in her passions and stubbornness and use them to her advantage, because they can be assets when she's older, even if they do drive me crazy at the moment.  She's almost always in a dress or skirt.  If she's wearing pants, it's probably because all her skirts are in the wash :).

Jaina's Favorites:
Colors - pink, gold, red, yellow, "all the colors in the whole wide world, because they are all pretty"
Foods - popcorn "literally almost all popcorns", pepperoni pizza, pepperoni "by itself plain"
Books - mermaid books, unicorn books, princess books, fairy books, pegasus books
Toys - mermaids, unicorn-pegasuses, pegasuses, and unicorns
Outings - pool, playground, flower festival, museum, zoo
Shows - Ariel, Garfield, My Little Pony, Equestria Girls
Subject - Spanish, Chinese

MALACHI
Malachi turned 4 in September, and he is a classic little brother, doing all he can to aggravate his big sisters.  Jaina ignores most of his efforts, but Libby is quick to react and he thrives on her reactions.  I swear his favorite pastime is irritating Libby.  When the two are getting along, they are usually wrestling, something they both enjoy.  Malachi loves to play with Jaina, and they will sit quietly for ages playing together.  Malachi is in preschool and has learned a lot already this year.  He knows all of his colors, numbers, shapes, and letters, along with some basic addition facts he's picked up from School House Rock.  Right now we are working on letter sounds and fine motor skills through tracing, and he has begun writing some letters independently.  Malachi is a sweet little boy that spends a lot of the day acting like a baby bird, chirps and all.
Malachi's Favorites:
Colors - blue and red and gold and pink
Foods - "sandwiches and soda and french fries and water and carrots with peanut butter... and pepperoni"
Books - Kings, chicks (baby birds), cutie birds, Christmas books
Toys - trains, monkey toys, trains
Outings - Braums, chick-fil-a, Sprouts, museums, flower festival, dinosaur museum, pond
Shows - Pingu, Color Crew, Phineas and Ferb
Subject - "learning my alphabet and my shapes and my numbers"

ISAAC
Isaac turned 2 in October and is my sweet little baby boy.  He loves (LOVES) horses, and if he isn't playing with his toy horses, he's looking at horse books or drawing horse "pictures" or watching horse movies.  He sleeps with horses, plays with horses, pretends to be a horse.  But get him in front of a real horse and he loses his nerve and won't even touch it!  He's such a snugglebug and John says he's just like me - cranky in the morning and doesn't like to be touched when he's tired :).  He has a sweet little voice and has cute little nicknames for his siblings, and my favorite time of day is when Isaac hears the garage door open and runs down the hall yelling "dad's home!"  Isaac is addicted to technology and often walks off with my phone and leaves it in some hard-to-find place just as the battery dies.

Isaac's Favorites: (the other kids answered these for him)
Colors - green, blue, red, and yellow
Foods - hot dogs, pepperoni, popcorn
Books - horse books, bird books
Toys - horses and other animals
Outings - park, science center
Shows - Spirit, Wallace & Gromit, Bill Nye
Subject - playtime
