Potty Pooper

John and I decided a while back that we would like to potty train our cat. Once we moved into our itty bitty hotel room we decided now is the time. Having the litter box in such a small space was just unhealthy for all of us. So I logged on to www.citikitty.com and ordered a potty-training kit. Last week I took Hobbit's litter box away (into the trash, yay!) and installed the kit. All it is is a plastic tray that fits into the toilet bowl. You sprinkle a thin layer of litter into the tray, and once a week remove a ring from the center of the tray. After about 5-6 weeks, all the rings will be removed and the kitty will be doing his business right into the potty. By the next morning, Hobbit had already broken it in. Good kitty! He wasn't sure about pooping in it, so he used the bath tub for that part. After scrubbing the tub twice John and I talked about what we could do to make that an un-poopable place. I propped large storage containers in the tub and that night Hobbit did his poopy in the right place. Now he gets treats every time he poops. He's a smart guy. Tomorrow I will remove the first ring to open a 1 1/2 x 3 inch hole in the center. By the time we move into our apartment at the end of September, he should be completely trained! I'll try to get a picture of him doing the deed :)

That is the funniest thing I have ever heard of. Not having an indoor cat, litter boxes and the like are not even on my radar screen. I grew up with dogs, so I've never even known there was such a thing. You MUST get a picture of this! :) I'm feeling that I've lived a very sheltered life! Thanks for broadening my horizons.
