Fruit on the table? Not such a good idea.

Last week we went to dinner at the home of one of John's nursery co-workers. While there, the mom observed that she and the kids have been eating so much fruit lately because she has been leaving it out on the table as opposed to storing it in the fridge. I had to agree with her logic, because in the few hours we were there the kids (including Libby) polished off a bunch of bananas and the mom and I ate oranges like nobody's business. I decided to start doing the same at my house. My results, however, have not always been great.

John and I ate 5 lbs of oranges in 2 days. They were yummy! Libby went through a bunch of bananas in 2 days (her favorite food besides blueberry bagels). Libby had the last apple for breakfast today. I had to out and replenish our fruit stock on Wednesday, which is great considering I had stocked up on Saturday. The downsides: Libby can reach the fruit bowl that sits in the middle of the table. Last night she pulled out all of our unripe avocados and punched holes in them with her thumbs. We will find out tonight if they are edible. A few minutes ago she came over with a double fistful of mashed kiwi, still in the skin. The remainder of the kiwi was smeared on the window and window-sill behind the kitchen table. Yeah, yeah, I know, maybe if I gave her a little supervision I could prevent these things from happening, but who has time to actually pay attention to what their kids are doing until it's too late?

Maybe I'll start keeping the fruit on the bar counter instead of the table, but that's where we leave all of our junk...
