It's Father's Day?

This morning John got up with Libby so I could sleep in. Then he did the dishes. Then he held a fussy Jaina so I could take a nap, changing 4 poopie diapers in the process. Then his coworker called to talk about carpooling tomorrow. John came into the bedroom and said "Tracey wished me a happy Father's Day before you did". Oops. He said he's going to put that credit in his pocket and save it for later when he forgets something important. I did make him a great dinner of steak with herbed goat cheese, cucumber salad, garlic mashed potatoes, carrots, and strawberries with homemade whipped cream for dessert. He asked me "why did you think you were making me a special dinner?" Duh.

Needless to say, I married a great guy who turned out to be an awesome father to our girls. As I type this he is lying on the couch with Jaina, who I believe is suffering from stomach cramps and has been crying off and on all evening. He is such a good soother :) Our girls are lucky to have such a dad.

Speaking of dads, I have a pretty cool one myself. Just the other week I wrote a long post about him for his birthday. Here are a few memories I saved for today:

When I was in middle school, I took riding lessons at a farm way in north Raleigh. Dad would drive me to my Saturday lessons and we would listen to "Car Talk" on NPR. It's still one of my favorite radio shows, right behind "Prarie Home Companion". I get all nostalgic when I listen to it now.

In church on Sunday I would sit next to Dad and we would play games with one another. When we got too rowdy Mom would reach over and bury her hand in my hair, wrap a lock around her finger, and yank real hard. Now that I think about it, it seems like Dad always made sure I was sitting closer to Mom than he was, so that I would be the one to get in trouble!

Remember in his birthday post I talked about when Dad would yell at me I would always cry? Well, after yelling at me he would always come down to my room and apologize and talk to me until I calmed down. A few times I got so upset that my nose bled. Dad was always very gentle with me when that happened.

Basically, my dad is a big scary sarcastic guy that on the inside is all marshmallow fluff. Just don't tell him I said that.

Haha. I love it!!! We tried to do some special things for Cory, but he does so much that it's hard to just give him the day off--we just need his helping hands too much. :) And he's a good sport, too. I would have loved some of that dinner. Sounds delish!!!
