Jaina went for her 6-month check-up on Thursday. She has not grown in length in the past two months. So instead of being off the charts for her height, she is now in the paltry 97%. She has gained 1.5 lbs in the last month. Do I know how to grow 'em or what?
Jaina is also a scooting queen. She uses her elbows and knees to propel herself across the floor. Yesterday, while making dinner, I put her down in the living room and 5 minutes later she was in the kitchen. Nothing is safe. We have the baby gate up in the hallway now, which is more to keep Libby out of my jewelry box and toothpaste, but will also serve to keep Jaina out of the litter box.
Yesterday we moved Jaina into Libby's room. The decision was made after she woke up 4 times in one night to nurse. I'm sorry, but that is just not acceptable! We will work on night weaning now, cutting her back to one feeding a night, then cutting that out in a few months. she talks a lot at night and in the early morning, and I just can't sleep through that like John can. I have been a walking zombie the last few weeks. Last night worked out fine. Jaina woke up twice, waking Libby up the second time, but Libby went back to sleep without getting out of bed.
Afternoon naps will be a struggle, we're thinking Libby will have to sleep in our room. The problem is that we only have one rocking chair, which needs to be in the girl's room for night-time feedings and rockings. If I put Libby down for her nap, I can't use the rocker to get Jaina to sleep. Yesterday I tried putting Jaina in the pack-n-play in our room and she cried for 30 minutes before falling asleep. If I rock her while feeding her, I can put her to bed still awake and she goes to sleep on her own. So, we talked about recliners (too expensive), a second rocker (used-yuck), and finally decided to try Libby sleeping in our bed. We'll see how that goes today, but honestly, I don't think it's going to work.
Jaina is asleep right now and John has taken Libby to the library and the store so I can work on my talk for tomorrow. Guess I best get to it.
