A Weekend Without Pictures

One of the great things about being in Atlanta is being only 2 hours from his parent's and 6 from mine. So for the long weekend, we packed up once more and made the trip up to the mountains to stay with John's Mom and Dad. Libby was happy to see her "Gamma" and "Gampaw" (who she kept trying to call "Papa", which is what my Dad is called) again.

My Mother-in-law had plenty of gluten free baked goods for John. Every time we go she experiments with gluten-free baking, which is great because I am not such a good baker. So she tries out the recipes and finds the easy ones that John likes, then sends the recipes home with me. Which reminds me, I forgot to get the chocolate cake recipe from her this time.

Saturday was the day we drove up. It's a beautiful drive, but then driving anywhere in the southeast is going to be pretty (hello trees! I'm back!). I love the Smokey Mountains! Jaina and Libby both fussed quite a bit, but some of my milk in a bottle for Jaina and "Finding Nemo" for Libby got them back in good spirits. We stopped at Oinkers (only the best BBQ EVER) on the way up and picked up the order John's Mom called in for us. We got to enjoy that pig for lunch and dinner!

Saturday night was pretty awful. Jaina woke up probably 12 times. Actually, a lot of the time she just never went back to sleep. As a result, Libby woke up quite a bit as well. Needless to say, John and I got a total of about 3 hours of sleep probably. So Sunday started out pretty rough. Libby and Jaina were both on edge, crying quite a bit. But once Grandma and Grandpa got back from church, things got better. Grandpa took Libby for a walk while Grandma finished lunch. We got started on our food before Libby and her Grandpa got back from the walk. Halfway through our meal, I looked outside and notice that it was POURING! John grabbed some umbrellas and jumped in the car to rescue his dad and daughter, who had found refuge under someone's car port. A few minutes later they came back in and Libby said "Wet!" After a meal and a nap, we all felt a little more human.

My sister-in-law stopped over on Sunday night on her way home from her Mom's hous in north GA. It was nice to see her and her baby tummy. We sat and talked a little, but John and I went to bed early, hoping to get a few hours of sleep before the kid's started waking up. But they didn't. Not until 6 am. At 6 I was feeding Jaina and cleared my throat. From the other side of the room, I heard "Erg, me-me. Erg, me-me." Libby was fake burping and then excusing herself.

Monday we hung about and talked for a bit, then made the drive home. Yesterday's drive was better than Saturday's, thanks to a good night's sleep for us all.

And, true to form, I didn't take one picture. Sorry!

Yesterday afternoon John hit the sales at Dillard's and got some new clothes for work. Last night I hit the sales at Old Navy and got some new clothes for bumming around the house. Gotta love Labor Day!
