39 Weeks, 4 Days

Well folks, even after all that preterm labor fuss last month and last week's labor-fest, it looks like I'm bound to go all the way to the end, after all. Yesterday's appointment went well, the baby's heartbeat is nice and strong. My fundal height (the measurement from my pubic bone to the top of my uterus) is about .5 cm smaller than it was last week, meaning the baby has "dropped" some more. Baby has been posterior (back of the baby against my spine) up until now but Becky said yesterday that Sprout has turned transverse - is now facing my right hip. This is the optimal position for baby to be in at the beginning of labor as the head fits best through the pelvis when turned to the side. Boy, was I glad to hear about the change in position - last week I was having some serious back pain with those contractions. Glad to be rid of that. Becky said that posterior babies usually casue a lot of pre-labor contractions. It seems that Sprout made the turn during Thursday night's laboring, which resulted in the contractions stopping. Let me tell you, I'd rather be pregnant a week or two longer than have to deal with back labor! No change in dilation, but, whatever. It will happen sooner or later, right?

Well, I certainly can sympathize about going to the end...and beyond. Story of my life. :) Good luck and keep me posted!

That all sounds good. I am very glad that the baby turned and it all makes sense. I'm just sorry that it hasn't been more gentle on you.
