It seems as if all the gunk building up in my head and chest is making it's way out today. While not a pleasant ordeal, it does mean this cold is on it's way out and should be clear by the weekend. Hurray!
At my appt yesterday (40w2d, GROAN!) I was dilated to "a 3.7, 3.8". Come on! Not even a 4? But, my cervix is soft and stretchy, whereas the last few weeks it was been very firm. So that is a very good thing, because soft cervices dilate, and firm ones don't.
So here is the plan for getting Sprout here if s/he won't do it on it's own anytime soon:
Next Monday (41w1d, I will have an ultrasound to make sure there is sufficient amniotic fluid and that the placenta looks healthy. We will strip my membranes again, evening primrose oil will be applied (helps dilate), and Tusday morning at 4 am I will take castor oil so that hopefully it will knock me into labor around 10 am. This would be the day Mom flies in, so we may have to send a friend to pick her up from the airport. Hectic much?
If that doesn't work, then the following Monday (42w,1d) my midwife will break my water in a last-ditch attempt to get me into labor without having to go to the hospital. I will have 24 hours to start labor after that happens. If I don't, off to the hospital I will go.
Needless to say, no one thinks I'll make it long enough for that last-ditch effort. It's possible I'll make to my next appt, but I really doubt I would go any further. I'm thinking right now that my body is waiting until this cold is done before allowing itself to go into labor. Our bodies are amazing, and want us to be in prime condition before going through something as stressful as labor. So I don't mind waiting a few more days so I'm not hacking all over the kid while I'm breastfeeding. I don't think that makes for good infant-mother bonding. And my favorite midwife is on call this weekend, from 7pm Fri to 7am Mon, so I'm shooting for that time frame anyway :)

I'm not at all envious of the overdue thing. I've done it every time, but it never gets easier for me. :) I'm hoping you get well yesterday and have that baby ASAP. It sounds like you've got a plan in place. Hang in there. I'm comiserating with you. :)
We are still waiting and sending good thoughts your way. By the way, Jay and I were watching Pride and Prejudice when I read your Jane Austin blog. I took the quiz and I am Emma. I guess I will have to get that movie next, I haven't seen it.
