Saturday we met some friends at the park for watermelon and an all-around good time. Libby really enjoys playing with M. and J. (5 and 2.5) and I have a great time talking to S., who was a midwife in South Africa, where she grew up. S.'s husband had to work, so we put John in charge of the kids and just sat around talking all morning. We scarfed a whole watermelon (I think M. ate half of it on her own!) and then the kids dug into the juice, crackers, and granola bars we brought.
We had stopped at Walgreen's on the way to the park to pick up a cheap-o kite because it was so windy. Of course, by the time we were ready to fly it, the wind had died down. John and M. both made valiant efforts to get the kite in the air, but seeing as to how it would only fly if you ran really fast into the breeze, it didn't work. Because eventually you ended up in the trees ("What?" you ask, "Trees in Texas?" I know, I was surprised too.)
John gave the girls a tutorial on ants. They were pretty entranced. It was cute to see them all squatting in a circle around the ant hill, the girls pointing (and occasionally screeching) while John motioned with his hands about who-knows-what. He's such a good daddy :)
M. decided she wanted to climb a tree, and where M. goes, Libby goes too, so I lifted her up to the fat branch and she settled in quite happily for about 15 minutes while M. tried to figure out how to get from one side of the fat trunk to the other.
Libby's Dollar-Store Croc wannabees gave her blisters for the umpteenth time, so we threw them away and got her a new pair at Target.A good day was had by all, and then we went home and took a nap.

Oh, who cares about the complaining?! I don't... you're how pregnant? That's right, you're almost there and I had to walk up 3 flights of stairs with both pregnancies, so I know what you mean! Hope that baby comes soon!
